This morning we visit the historic market town of Stamford. Proclaimed by Sir Walter Scott as “the finest stone town in England”, Stamford was declared a conservation area in 1967 and has over 600 listed buildings of mellow limestone in the town centre. The town stars in the BBC’s adaptation of Middlemarch and big screen version of Pride and Prejudice and has something to charm everyone, from tranquil river walks, fine Georgian architecture to modern day shops. In the afternoon, we make our way to Rutland Water, created in the 1970’s by Anglian Water. At the village of Whitwell, we board the Rutland Belle for a 45-minute relaxing cruise with commentary across one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe whilst enjoying an included cream tea with freshly baked fruit scones, strawberry jam and luxury clotted cream and tea or coffee.
Price: £47.00 includes return travel by luxury coach, free time in Stamford and an afternoon cruise on Rutland Water with cream tea.
First pickup – Halstead 7.30am. Back in Dunmow around 6pm.
