We begin the day with morning coffee and biscuits in the Pilgrim’s Kitchen, the refectory of St Edmundsbury Cathedral, where we will be greeted by a top-notch Blue Badge Tour Guide who will stay with us throughout the day. After morning coffee, the guide will take us on a gentle walking tour, all on the flat, mostly in the Abbey Gardens but a bit in the town. We return to The Pilgrim’s Kitchen for a lunch of Quiche with new potatoes and salad. Please state any dietary requirements at time of booking. Drinks and desserts can be purchased on the day. In the afternoon a short drive to West Stow takes us to one of East Anglia’s hidden gems – Fullers Mill Garden. We visit on a day when the garden is closed to the public. Lovingly created over a lifetime from the 1950s by the late Bernard Tickner MBE, this tranquil seven-acre garden on the river Lark, surprises with a plantsman’s collection of rare and unusual shrubs, perennials, lilies and marginal plants. In 2023, the garden was gifted to the charity Perennial, the new name for The Gardener’s Benevolent Society, for its long-term preservation. Explore the garden before tucking into tea and cake which can be purchased from the Bothy Tea Room. You can also purchase plants grown by the gardeners to take home.
Price: £68.50 includes return travel by luxury coach, morning coffee & biscuits, guided walking tour in Bury St Edmunds with Blue Badge Guide, lunch and entrance to the Fullers Mill Garden.
First pickup – Halstead 8am. Back in Dunmow around 6pm.
