St. Ives is a delightful little market town with a picturesque location on the banks of the River Great Ouse. Famous for the Chapel on the Bridge, one of only 4 of its kind left in England and as being the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell. The Norris Museum is named after a local historian who bequeathed his entire lifetime collection to the town. This includes fossils, pre-historic tools and weapons and Roman artifacts along with a fine collection of arms and armour from the English Civil War and local crafts and lace. St. Ives has been a market town for almost 1,000 years. During that time, it has hosted some of the largest public markets in England and even today the town boasts a market on Mondays and Fridays. This afternoon we drive across the Fens to Wilburton and the Twenty Pence Garden Centre. Here you will find all the products you need to keep your garden looking good all year round. Everything you need, all under one roof – gifts, novelties, fashion, accessories, seasonal plants, furniture, a food hall selling a wide range of preserves, sauces, pickles and chutneys, many from local suppliers.
