Includes return travel by luxury coach, free time in St. Ives on market day and Afternoon Tea at Carriages.
We spend the morning in the delightful little market town of St. Ives located on the banks of the River Great Ouse. Famous for the Chapel on the Bridge, as being the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell, and home to the Norris Museum. St. Ives has been a market town for almost 1,000 years and today the town boasts a market on Mondays and Fridays. The original character of the town still remains, and the shopping centre has a good mix of independent traders and well-known High-Street stores. This afternoon we drive the short distance to Fen Drayton and Carriages Tea Rooms for a unique Afternoon Tea experience. Carriages is the brainchild of Michael Attle, who inspired by a visit to a restaurant located in a colonial railway station India, on his return set about recreating his experience by building a 1920’s station complete with Pullman style carriages. The project has been a labour of love with the highest attention to detail being paid to the project. The Afternoon Tea includes freshly made finger sandwiches, freshly baked plain and fruit scones served with Cornish clotted cream and jam, a selection of homemade fancies accompanied by tea or coffee. A glass of chilled champagne can be purchased on the day.
