Includes return travel by luxury coach with free time in Oxford.
Oxford, the City of Dreaming Spires, is like no other city in the world. Within one square mile alone there are more than 900 buildings of architectural or historical interest. Oxford has been a seat of scholars for 800 years and is home to Britain’s oldest university. Like a film set, Oxford’s city centre is shaped by the University’s iconic buildings and ancient colleges – medieval gems of mellow golden stone with dining halls, chapels, libraries and living apartments grouped around quadrangles in monastic style, parts of which are open to the public, usually in the afternoon. Oxford is also home to Britain’s oldest public museum – The Ashmolean Museum of Art & Archaeology and the second largest library in the country, Bodleian Library which holds a copy of every book ever published in England since 1662. Side by side with this dignified display of learning is a mix of shops, pubs and restaurants. Many parts of the city may seem familiar for Oxford has inspired much loved authors and provided the location for popular films and TV series from Colin Dexter’s ‘Inspector Morse’ to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Hall. You can take an open top bus tour, walking tour or hire a river cruise to explore this charming old city.
