We begin the day in Thaxted where we meet our top-notch Blue Badge Guide and enjoy included morning refreshments, served in an old coaching inn. Our guide will take us on a gentle walking tour. Without walking too far you will be able to see a lot, including the old wool church where English composer Gustav Holst played the organ, the black and white striped Tudor Houses and colour washed from the medieval to the Georgian period and the beautifully wonky old Guildhall. Rejoining our coach we drive through the gently rolling landscapes of rural Essex and the chocolate box village of Finchingfield as we head to the Essex Rodings. These 8 villages full of old thatched cottages, timber-framed manor houses and farmhouses, form the largest group in the country to share a common name. Not far away is the village of High Easter, home to Lodge Coaches and their little coach museum. On arrival, we enjoy a ploughman’s lunch surrounded by the vintage vehicle collection and old coaching ephemera collection of the Lodge family, who have just celebrated 100 years of operation. There will be time to enjoy the collection of old coaching and bus ephemera and rides out in immaculately restored 1940’s and 1950’s coaches that have starred in countless TV programmes and films. We finish the day with a cup of tea, which is included in the price.
Price: £61.00 includes return travel by luxury coach; morning coffee in Thaxted with a gentle guided walking tour, a guided, scenic coach tour, ploughman’s lunch and a ride in a vintage coach.
