Saturday: Completing our pickups we begin our journey north. With suitable stops along the way we make for our overnight hotel in East Kilbride.
Sunday: After breakfast we continue our journey north. Passing Stirling we enter the Highlands and pause for lunch in Pitlochry. This afternoon we make our way to Grantown-on-Spey and our hotel for the next 4 nights.
Monday: After two days on the coach, today is more relaxed. Our first visit is to the nearby Speyside Heather Centre, with its gift shop, antiques shop, art gallery and garden centre, where you can find over 300 different types of heather. There is also a whiskey shop, if you fancy a wee dram and a restaurant, noted for its clootie dumpling. From here we make our way to Aviemore, where we board the Strathspey Steam Railway for a 10 mile journey to Broomhill, taking in glorious views of heather clad moors, the ancient Caledonian Forest and the River Spey.
Tuesday: A full day out with some magnificent Scottish mountain scenery as we enjoy a scenic drive along the Great Glen. Making our way around Inverness we find ourselves on the shores of Loch Ness, where we pause for morning refreshments and enjoy an included visit to The Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition. This is a hi-tech multi-media presentation that
takes you through 500 million years of history and natural mystery, revealing the unique environment of Loch Ness and the famous Nessie legend. Leaving the Great Glen briefly, we enter Glen Garry for some stunning views then it is onto our afternoon refreshment stop at Spean Bridge. From here our scenic drive takes us along Glen Spean and the shores of Loch Laggan, through part of the Cairngorms National Park and back to our hotel.
Wednesday: After a leisurely breakfast enjoy a free day here in Grantown-on-Spey, a charming, traditional Highland town with many interesting, unique independent shops and numerous cafes. The area is surrounded by ancient woodland and numerous walks and trails. If you want, venture further afield and catch the bus into Inverness.
Thursday: Sadly, we must say goodbye to the Grant Arms Hotel and begin our journey home. Stopping along the way for refreshments we pass the Fair City of Perth, and cross the Firth of Forth as we make our way to the city of Newcastle and our overnight hotel.
Friday: leaving Newcastle we head south along the Great North Road. With suitable stops for refreshments and to get those essential supplies, we hope to be back in Essex late afternoon
