Monday: Leaving Essex this morning we begin our drive to North Wales. Using the motorways and a stop at Dobbies Garden World, Atherstone, we aim to be at our hotel in plenty of time to relax before dinner.
Tuesday: Today we enjoy some stunning scenery as we make our way into the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. The day starts with a visit to Betws-y-Coed. This pretty little village was once a major coaching centre on the Irish Mail route from London to Holyhead and today is the gateway to the Snowdonia National Park. This afternoon we climb on board the Snowdon Mountain Railway and savour breathtaking views from the summit of Wales’ highest mountain.
Wednesday: This morning we visit the medieval walled town of Conwy. A World Heritage Site with an imposing 13th century castle and walls. From here we venture over the Menai Straits onto the Isle of Anglesey and onto the seaside town of Beaumaris. Noted for its castle, Georgian architecture and views back across to Snowdonia. Before leaving Anglesey and returning to our hotel, we pay a brief visit to Llanfair PG, the town with the longest name.
Thursday: More stunning scenery as we make our way back into the Snowdonia National Park and head for Blaenau Ffestiniog, the slate capital of Wales. Here we board the Ffestiniog Railway, one of Wales’ best-loved Great Little Trains and enjoy one of the world’s great railway journeys as we travel through magnificent scenery to Porthmadog. After lunch we rejoin our coach and drive to Caernarfon, one of the most historic towns in Wales. Dominated by its castle, the town’s narrow streets and stylish redeveloped Waterfront are well worth a visit.
Friday: We spend the day at leisure here in Llandudno, enjoying the beautiful Victorian architecture and Edwardian elegance. Stroll down the longest pier in Wales, enjoy a walk along the promenade, and perhaps take the UK’s only cable hauled tramway to the top of the Great Orme.
Saturday: Sadly we must leave North Wales and the Snowdonia National Park and head for home. With a lunch stop and a comfort stop in the afternoon to get those essential supplies we hope to be back home late afternoon.
