Bury St Edmunds grew up around the powerful medieval Abbey of St Edmund. Even though the Abbey was dissolved in the 16th century the town has continued to prosper. A visit to this old Suffolk town is like taking a walk back in time and is all the more interesting on market day. Leaving Bury early afternoon, we then make our way to Lavenham and enjoy an included cream tea (tea/coffee with a scone, jam and cream) at the Cock Horse Inn. Afterwards, to walk off those calories why not take a stroll into the centre of Lavenham, medieval charm can be found at every turn, with timber-framed buildings lining the narrow streets and lanes leading up to the impressive marketplace. Over 300 buildings are listed as being of architectural and historic interest, including The Guildhall, Little Hall, and De Vere House to name but a few. Or, just cross the road and have a look at the stately church of St Peter and St Paul, built by donations from rich wool traders from the area.
Price: £25.00 includes return travel by luxury coach with free time in both Bury and Lavenham and cream tea at the Cock Hors Inn.
Please Note: From the Cock Horse Inn it is a 5-10 minute walk to the Guildhall in the centre of Lavenham and it is uphill on the way back.
