The Cotswold villages are famous for the ancient mellow ‘honey’ coloured limestone and have scarcely altered since they grew up on the prosperity of the wool trade some 300 years ago. Bourton on the Water is one such village, straddling the river Windrush with its series of elegant low bridges, it has become known as “the Venice of the Cotswolds”. Arriving around lunchtime you will have plenty of time to explore this delightful village. We combine our visit to Bourton with a scenic drive through the Cotswolds, passing through Burford on the way there, then Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh and Chipping Norton on the return.
