Monday: After breakfast we meet our guide for a full day guided coach tour along Hadrian’s Wall. We travel through the fabulous scenery of the beautiful Northumbria countryside along the Hadrian’s Wall Route, visiting the award winning Vindolanda, one of Europe’s most important Roman archaeological sites. After time for lunch we visit the charming market town of Hexham before continuing on our tour along the Military Road where we see the magnificent Wall at close quarters.
Tuesday: Today we visit the Living Museum of the North, the Beamish Museum. This famous open air museum, set within 300 acres of beautiful Country Durham countryside, tells the story of life in North East England during the 1820’s, 1900’s and 1940’s. Experience town life as it would have been in the 1940’s, pop into the Pit Village in the early 1900’s and take unlimited rides on the Beamish trams.
Wednesday: We spend the day at the excellent Cragside House and Gardens, former home of the famous inventor, Lord Armstrong. The House is full of ingenious gadgets and an eclectic
Thursday: After breakfast we make our way home. With a lunch stop at Dobbies Garden Centre, Chesterfield and a comfort stop in the afternoon to get those essential supplies we aim to be back home late afternoon.
Please read the itinerary carefully before deciding if this tour will be suitable for you: 1) Some bedrooms in the hotel are a long walk from reception and the restaurant. 2) Bedrooms with walk-in showers are request only and limited in number, so are on a ‘fi rst come, fi rst served’ basis. 3) The terrain at Cragside is uneven with steep footpaths, many of which are unsuitable for wheelchair users. Also, the coach can not get to the House meaning a walk or the use of the shuttle bus.
