All aboard for the Pensthorpe Natural Park combines a guided nostalgic journey through the heart of rural Norfolk on a heritage railway with an interesting visit to the Pensthorpe Natural Park, near Fakenham. After a comfort stop, we make our way to the Pensthorpe Natural Park. With over 700 acres of diverse habitats, the former home of BBC Springwatch brings together the beauty of the natural world with its acres of beautiful lakes, woodlands walks and four stunning gardens – all of which are home to an array of birds and wildlife, including rare and endangered species such as Red Squirrels, Corncrakes, Turtle Doves and Cranes. Absorb the structural beauty of the Millennium Garden, designed by world-renowned plantsman Piet Oudof; admire the sculptures as you meander through the Wave Garden; hop on behind-the-scenes Pensthorpe Explorer tour and join Pensthorpe’s resident experts for the daily bird feed. This afternoon we make our way to Dereham where we board the heritage train for an 11-mile journey on the Mid-Norfolk Railway to Wymondam Abbey. All the villages along the route retain their original stations, recreating the railway scene of the 1950’s and 60’s. The route also takes in rural churches and crosses three lovely river valleys. During the journey you will be served scones, clotted cream, jam, butter, strawberries and as much tea or coffee as you can drink. Our coach awaits you at Wymondam Abbey station to begin your homeward journey.
Price: £45.00 includes return travel by luxury coach, entrance to Pensthorpe Natural Park, a single journey on the Mid-Norfolk Railway with cream tea.
