Tuesday: After breakfast we enjoy a colourful drive along part of the Bulbfield Route as we make our way to Keukenhof, the most famous and largest flower park in the world. Open gardens and pavilions demonstrate a fantastic collection of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, orchids and a range of other fl owers. Unique in the world, Keukenhof attracts over a million visitors each year and with a different theme each year it is never the same. The theme for 2020 is ‘A World of Colour’.
Wednesday: This morning we head north and cross the Houtribdijk Dam, built as part of the Zuider Zee Works. Once across the dam we pause for awhile in the old town of Medemblik, with a pleasant harbour area and centre this makes for a good place to have lunch. Why not visit the old bakery and see how traditional Dutch
Thursday: Our excursion today takes us to the picturesque villages of Volendam and Merken. On arriving in Volendam we enjoy coffee and cake in a harbour side restaurant before heading off with our local guide, dressed in historical costume, to catch the ferry to the island of Merken. Here our guide will show us the highlights of the island before catching the ferry back to Volendam where we have an included lunch. Afterwards the guide will show the highlights of this charming little town.
Friday: Leaving our hotel after breakfast we retrace our route back to Calais to catch the afternoon ferry back to England. Once in Dover we continue our homeward journey, arriving home early evening
Please read the itinerary carefully before deciding if this tour will be suitable for you: 1) The first and last days have early starts and long periods, around 3 hours at a time on the coach. 2) The visits to Volendam and Merken involve a walking tour. 3) To explore Keukenhof fully involves a fair amount of walking.
Please note: 1) With the uncertainty of Brexit, if there are problems with delays at the ferry ports C & J Tours reserves the right to either cancel this tour or sub-contract the tour to a European operator. 2) A full British passport, which MUST be valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure is required for this tour. 3) Currency used on this tour will be the Euro – see Booking Terms & Conditions for further information. 4) Due to the time constraints involved in getting to and from the ferry terminals, and in order to keep to driver’s hours with the possibility of delays at the ferry terminals due to Brexit, this tour will use the short pick up route. Please Note: Pick up points for this tour are Braintree & Dunmow only.
